What will you do to increase investment and skill levels in the strategic industries, infrastructure and public services on which the UK’s security and prosperity depend?

We would boost the economy with a major programme of capital investment aimed at stimulating growth across all areas of the UK. We would ensure strong public services by investing the proceeds of a 1p rise in Income Tax. In Scotland this would be devoted to education and mental health services.

How will you ensure that key, cross-border industries – including energy, telecoms, broadcasting, nuclear, science and aviation – can prosper outside the single market?

We would stay in the single market.

Will you unilaterally guarantee the residence and citizenship rights of EU nationals currently living or working in the UK, irrespective of negotiations with the EU?

We would do this.

Will you maintain defence expenditure at no less than the annual limits set out in the 2015 spending review, and at levels of at least 2% of GDP for the rest of the parliament?

Yes

Will you guarantee continued access to European science funding streams and collaborative projects and freedom of movement for relevant STEM workers?

We would protect the science budget, including the recent £2 billion increase, by continuing to raise it at least in line with inflation. Our long-term goal is to double innovation and research spending across the economy. We would guarantee to underwrite funding for British partners in EU-funded projects. We would seek to negotiate an agreement which protected the right to work, travel, study and retire across the EU.
