The Government believe that they are effectively consulting with the public about what they want the government to do with the public forests but their document gives no option at all for maintaining the Forestry Commission as it is.
The model for Forest management we have at the moment with the FORESTRY COMMISSION is a model that is not broken.
Our Forests are multipurpose forests allowing the public to enjoy all of their activities:
- walking, mountain biking, horse riding, nordic walking, bird watching, playing, education for children, access by all ability groups
but The Forestry Commission also fill government requirements for:
- Climate Change, protecting wildlife and forest biodiversity, researching pests and diseases and growing wood fuel and timber.
We do all of this whilst engaging with our local communities to ensure that we look after their needs as best we can.
Why would anyone want to change the organisation we have especially when it costs less than 31p per taxpayer.
FC workers are dedicated civil servants please see out leaflet below for more details about the cuts and what the FC does
David Cameron thinks other organisations could do a better job than we do!
Prospect today (2_2_11) issued a press release challenging the Prime Minister.
