Heritage
Prospect members are at the heart of the UK’s heritage sector. Whether at one of the national museums and galleries in the UK, at English Heritage or an archaeological trust, members are busy working to conserve, curate and explain – bringing the past to life for generations to come.
However, spending cuts planned by government as part of its debt reduction strategy mean that the national museums and galleries face an unprecedented attack on jobs, standards and access to collections.
In addition, the threats to pay and pensions mean that the heritage sector is under attack at both national and local level.
Prospect leads the campaign to ensure that our heritage bodies are properly funded by government. We want to ensure they can carry out their statutory role as sources of learning, knowledge and culture.
With over 20 different occupations in membership from archaeologist, archivist and curator to conservator, designer, illustrator and property manager, the skills and expertise of nearly 3,000 members in the sector are vital to the smooth operation of these centres of excellence.
Prospect is proud to be a leading force arguing the case to ensure that our heritage bodies are properly funded.
