Scottish Research Establishments

Prospect is the recognised Trade Union for all scientific and other specialist staff in the following establishments, members within which are in the Scottish Research Establishments (SRE) Branch of Prospect:

  • Biomathematics and Statistics Scotland (BioSS)
  • The James Hutton Institute
  • Moredun Research Institute

Existing Prospect members in the following SREs can retain their membership :

  • Roslin Institute
  • Rowett Institute of Nutritionand Health (RINH)

SRE Branch holds regular Brance Executive Committee (BEC) meetings - usually six a year - to discuss issues relating to pay, grading, and other terms and conditions of employment such as hours, leave, pensions etc. The main office bearers of the BEC attend Joint Negotiating and Consultative Committee (JNCC) meetings with the Biotechnology and Biological Sciences Research Council (BBSRC). The JNCC determines the terms and conditions of employment of all staff in the SREs. The resulting Employment Code can be seen on the BBSRC website
