Model letter - existing non-membersDear
I understand that you are not a member of Prospect, the union recognised by the company/organisation for your grade. As I am sure you know, we represent scientists, professional and technology officers, photographers, librarians and all other professional and technical grades.
Decisions are being made now or in the very near future that will change the conditions under which you work, your salary, conditions of service, allowances, health and safety, training, expenses, retirement and pension. These are all negotiated by Prospect with management and in all cases Prospect seeks to ensure maximum protection on behalf of its members.
The union also helps members who find themselves in personal difficulties with management and can represent their case at all levels. Prospect has a personal injury scheme which operates if you or your dependants are injured in an accident, whether at work or elsewhere. In 2001 we won over £4 million for members through this scheme. There is also a free 24-hour legal hotline for non-work related problems.
Prospect offers a comprehensive package of members' services which includes high quality insurance, mortgages, financial advice and other services - all at competitive rates. Many members find that they can more than recoup the cost of their subscription from the savings these offer.
I have enclosed some more information about Prospect together with an application form. I hope you agree that this is the time to join Prospect, and I will call in early next week for a brief chat. In the meantime, if you have any questions about membership, please get in touch with me on the above number.
Yours sincerely
PATRICIA JONES
Membership Secretary
