I have just been informed that you have recently joined the company/agency/department. I am writing to welcome you on behalf of Prospect, which is the recognised union representing you and your colleagues.
Prospect represents the great majority of specialist staff in the department and voices their concerns to management. It negotiates all your pay and conditions of service. These are increasingly being decided locally, which makes it all the more important for Prospect to demonstrate it is representative of staff. If changes are imposed, Prospect seeks to ensure maximum protection for its members.
We negotiate on all matters which are of concern to your grade. Last year, for example, the branch was able to get several posts upgraded, and we agreed better access to training opportunities for all our members. The union also helps out members who find themselves in difficulties with management and can represent their cases at all levels.
Prospect has a personal injury scheme which operates if you or your dependants are injured in an accident, whether at work or elsewhere. In 2001 we won over £4 million for members through this scheme. There is also a free 24-hour legal hotline for non-work related problems.
Prospect offers a comprehensive package of members' services which includes high quality insurance, mortgages and financial advice - all at competitive rates. Many members have found that they can more than recoup the cost of their subscription from the savings these offer.
