Retiring? Stay in touch. Stay with Prospect
Just because you are leaving employment, you don't have to leave Prospect - you can become a Retired Member. You don't even have to be age 60 or over. Any member leaving employment, whether because of age, sickness or redundancy, can become a Retired Member. The monthly subscription rate is low - £3.08 (£37 for a full year) - or, if you are age 55 or over, you can become a life member by paying a lump sum of £370. (These rates are valid until 31.12.2010.)
If you are under 55 you can pay the monthly or annual subscription rate until you reach age 55, when you can then buy life membership or continue with annual payments.
Retired membership entitles you, your spouse and dependants to:- many of our members' services
- receive the union journal
- continue to enjoy access to certain legal services and advice on pensions.
However, retired members are not entitled to work-related benefits, such as advice on employment rights, personal injury or official inquiries arising from work undertaken whilst in retired membership. Retired members do not have access to the death benefit scheme.
Retired members have their own organisation for ensuring their views and concerns are represented within Prospect - the Retired Members Group, which has a network of 20 area representatives, publicised in Profile.
When you notify Prospect of your retirement you will automatically be invited to continue in retired membership. Anyone retiring or resigning from employment, whatever their age, may become a retired member.
If you would like more information about becoming a retired member please contact our membership department.
