Prospect's networks
Prospect's informal networks keep members informed about issues they're interested in.
The networks allow us to:
- establish central contact with members from particular groups
- consult those members on issues which affect them
- inform members about special conferences, seminars and other events
- enable members to share information with each other.
Networks currently cover the following areas and issues:
Disabled members: stimulates participation in Prospect campaigns and policies and raises awareness of the disability dimension in employment issues generally.
Environment: maintains a contact between those with an expertise or interest in environment and energy issues and exchanges information.
Equal pay: provides information, advice, support and training to representatives interested in pursuing equal pay issues within their workplace.
Homeworkers: makes contact and shares information with other members who work from home. Consults members about homeworking and their experience. No commitment involved, but members' views are welcome.
Lesbian, gay, bisexual and trans: provides support and advice for members to campaign against discrimination in the workplace and facilitates contact between network members. Advises union on legislative and workplace developments. This network is run on a confidential basis and you don't have to be 'out' at work to join.
Race equality: this is an important source of expertise for Prospect. The network seeks comments on proposals by Prospect and employers, updates members about appropriate courses and campaigns. Members of the network also contact each other.
Superannuation experts: receives information on changes to pensions and benefits, distributes information to members and acts as a focus for expertise in branches.
Union Learning Reps: helps ULRs to raise the profile and promote the value of training and development in the workplace. Helps reps to share best practice - assistance includes initial and follow-up training, website advice and access to information.
Wisenet (women into science and engineering): campaigns to keep women's needs on the SET agenda and serves as a contact for women scientists and engineers in Prospect.
Women: keeps Prospect women members in touch with each other, provides advice and support, and enables Prospect to draw upon members' experiences.
Young Professionals: a forum for members under 30 to meet others of the same age, exchange information on issues of common interest and be active on campaigns.
