What can Prospect do for staff at the Salford Foundation?
If Prospect wins recognition for staff at the Salford Foundation (the legal right to negotiate terms and conditions with your employer), Prospect members will be consulted on issues such as:
- pay
- holidays
- working time arrangements
- pensions and sick pay arrangements
- policies such as disciplinary, grievance and poor work performance procedures.
Prospect also offers excellent individual representation and advice to members on workplace issues.
Here's a sample of the advice and support available to our members: download our members' guide to short term contracts.
We're offering three months' free membership to Salford Foundation employees who join before the end of December 2008. Check our subscription rates and download an application form now. For more information watch our short online videos, or contact justin.adams@prospect.org.uk.
Busting the myths about unions
"All unions support the Labour party"
Fiction. Prospect is politically neutral, and is not affiliated to any political party. We do have a political fund, but this is a legal requirement to allow Prospect to campaign on legislative issues. None of the money is given to a political party.
"The union will make us take action to support members outside my workplace"
Fiction. We are a member-led organisation, which means you will have a say in everything Prospect does in your workplace. You will only be asked to support national campaigns if they are relevant to you or your employer.
"Unions are bad for employers and could harm the business"
Fiction. Prospect is not 'out to get' your employer - this would be detrimental to our members. We want the company to be successful, because that's in your best interest. By working in partnership we can help the organisation move forward. With our expertise in employment rights and policy development, we can work with the Salford Foundation to prevent problems occurring.
This is what the HR director of a major US multinational company's UK subsidiary has to say about us:
"Prospect - yes, they are good for our business
I have valued Prospect's involvement in our business over many years.
They properly surface the human issues around major change and address them in a mature way, avoiding conflict and seeking (usually successfully) win-win outcomes for the employer and employees alike. In our business, they also work closely and effectively with our other recognised Trade Unions in delivering sound change processes and outcomes with the business.
Prospect is always a representative voice of the workforce. They are also leaders and massive advocates for our industry. Prospect leads on change management, and their specialism in this area has been most welcome.
Prospect provides good professional representation collectively and also on behalf of individual members.
I have no hesitation in recommending Prospect as a union you can do business with: they enhance and bring added value to my business as we respond to a very challenging and volatile business environment and seek to shape a good future for our Company and employees
