Prospect Library and Information Professionals Group

Prospect represents librarians and information professionals working across a range of mainly public sector employers, from the UK's national libraries to civil service departments and agencies, including:

British Library
Department for Work and Pensions
Food Standards Agency
Foreign & Commonwealth Office
Historic Scotland
Home Office
Imperial War Museum
Lord Chancellors Department
Metropolitan Police
Ministry of Defence
National Library of Scotland
Natural England
Natural Environment Research Council
NDA
Ordnance Survey
QinetiQ
Scottish Government
Stationery Office
Fire Service College
Veterinary Laboratories Agency

Their terms and conditions may vary across those employers, but from a professional and specialist point of view they've got a lot in common.

The LIPS Group serves two main purposes:

  • it's a forum for members to communicate and share their experiences
  • it helps Prospect take a co-ordinated view on issues which affect them professionally. This is especially important outside the national libraries, where they're likely to be one of a very small number of information professionals.

If you're logged into the Prospect website and can see a link on the left to the LIPS Group 'member pages', then we already know that you're a librarian or information professional, and you've got access to the full range of content for the eGroup, including our discussion forum.

If you're a logged-in Prospect member working in the library/information area, but all you can see is the LIPS Group public page, please email us and let us know that you'd like to be part of the group, quoting your membership number if possible.

If you're not a Prospect member but you're working as a librarian or information professional in the civil service or an NDPB, find out more about what Prospect can do for you.

The views expressed on this site are not necessarily the views of Prospect nationally.
