Disability Charter – taking forward disability equality in Prospect

The Trade Union Disability Alliance, to which Prospect is affiliated, has published a Trade Union Charter for Disability which is intended to help unions in representing disabled members’ interests and in complying with responsibilities to disabled staff and members under disability discrimination legislation. The National Executive Committee have endorsed the recommendations and action plans from a working group set up to consider how Prospect can meet the commitments of the Charter.

Prospect is firmly committed to equality of opportunity for all members, and firmly rebuts any suggestion that equality in the workplace can be treated as an optional extra. This briefing has been produced to assist representatives to positively promote the case for equality at work.

Childcare vouchers are often offered as part of a salary sacrifice scheme, which means that employees agree to exchange part of their salary for the equivalent in vouchers. Originally issued in June 2004, this briefing was updated in April 2005. This reflects a change to the scheme which makes childcare vouchers up to the value of £50 per week free from tax and National Insurance Contributions (NICs).
