Learning posterEducation, learning and skills

There are two distinct aspects to our education, learning and skills work:

  • training our reps and ensuring they have the skills they need to be effective
  • promoting members' personal and career development. We believe that lifelong learning should be available to all, and that there should be governmental coherence on policies and decisions affecting investment in skills.

We offer a range of services, support, advice:

  • national and regional/branch education programmes for our reps (you can see examples of our courses at the bottom of this page)
  • support to branches and members in pursuit of trade union learning
  • information and advice about lifelong learning and skills
  • a network of union learning reps (ULRs)
  • various tools and resources for ULRs.

Our learning and skills team supports and promotes learning and career development in your workplace by:

  • drafting and delivering learning agreements
  • supporting and organising learning agreements
  • training and delivering 1-2-1 support to ULRs
  • identifying and writing bids for regional and national funding
  • briefing branches and employers on the benefits of life long learning and ULRs
  • providing advice on careers and personal development opportunities.

Our national education team runs the union's education programme, arranges funding for branch, section or regional training, and co-ordinates Unionlearn training for members.

The next few courses in our national education programme are set out below. For further courses, please see the full programme.
