CareerPlus is Prospect's career development package, designed to help people manage their career in a changing environment.

Few people can expect to progress through their working life without facing a change in job, career or employer. In fact, most people who embark on a career as a specialist today will need to spend time in a range of jobs in different organisations, possibly moving between the public, private and university sectors. This places a premium on having transferable skills, good interview techniques and clear objectives.

CareerPlus aims to help clarify your career goals and get you to think about the choices available - for example, do you want to remain in a specialist post, move into management or develop the skills you need to move between the two areas? It also highlights the importance and relevance of personal goals to help you develop a more balanced approach to work and private life.

What CareerPlus can do for you

CareerPlus offers a number of resources to help you. Whether you're a fixed-term contract worker planning your next move, a permanent employee hoping for promotion, or are simply looking for a new job with a different employer we hope it will:

• match your competence, knowledge and ambition to the needs set out in a job specification
• describe how employers make choices when appointing
• focus on what you need to do next to meet your development objectives

Why Prospect has produced the portfolio

Learning, personal and career development has become an increasing part of Prospect's work in recent years. CareerPlus is one of the projects we set up with the help of the Union Learning Fund (ULF), a government initiative. The ULF is part of the government's strategy to create a lifelong learning culture, and provides funding for union-led led projects that promote learning in the workplace.
