Training, career and personal development Prospect is committed to promoting members' personal and career development, in their working life and beyond. In the workplace we negotiate for appropriate training and career development opportunities for our members. We encourage our representatives to put these issues high on the bargaining agenda, and provide a range of resources to help them do so. Our network of learning representatives helps the profile of training and development in the workplace.
At a broader level we are actively involved in the work of relevant sector skills councils , who provide employer leadership for strategic targeted action to meet their sector's skills and business needs. We are currently running a Women and Work project for SEMTA the skills council for science, engineering and manufacturing technologies. This aims to unlock women's potential in these industries.
We have produced a joint union charter on training and development for scientists, and encouraged employers to sign up to it. The thirteen-point charter calls for a new commitment to lifelong learning for all scientists to help scientific expertise stay at the cutting edge of knowledge. We're also involved in an initiative to develop National Occupational Standards for archaeology, part of a long-term goal to see a recognised career structure in this sector. Members can take advantage of the OPUS2 career counselling service run by the Connect trade union.
And we have set up a number of our own practical programmes to improve our members' career prospects, including CareerPlus, our personal and career development package. This is available to members online or on CD.
Members only: The full CareerPlus content is available to you online.
