Prospect petition on pay 2005
Prospect, the union for specialists in the civil
service and non-departmental public bodies, is calling for fair
play for specialists in the 2005 pay round. I am one of those
specialists and I call on the Treasury to ensure the civil service
pay remit for 2005:
- is set at a level which allows for a cost of living increase
and progression opportunities
- does not impose a discriminatory cap on the rise in earnings
for civil servants which does not apply to other public service
workers
- allows individual organisations to enter genuine negotiations
- ensures they are funded to meet the costs of a reasonable
pay increase.
Specialist staff possess the very skills the government's
reform agenda for the civil service seeks to encourage. They
should be treated no worse than any other group of public
sector workers.
