Speak up for public services Prospect members joined in a TUC lobby of parliament in support of public services on 23 January 2007. Over 700 public servants attended the lobby. It was an opportunity for Prospect members in the public sector to draw attention to their concerns, including: - the threat of privatisation
- stalled pay negotiations
- progress on specialist pay in the civil service.
The main objective was for public sector workers to lobby a large number of MPs. The purpose of lobbying is to build political pressure for a change of approach by the government. So it is important that Prospect members ask MPs to support our campaigning objectives. This could range from signing Early Day Motion 499 to more active involvement in a specific Prospect campaign.
For more information see the TUC website at www.tuc.org.uk/speakup.
Defending public services Prospect supported a major rally and lobby of parliament in support of public services in June 2006 in central London. Prospect representatives and members were among the thousands of public servants who gathered at Westminster central hall.
This was a joint campaign organised by a number of unions including the NUT, PCS, POA and NAPO together with supporting members of parliament. See www.publicnotprivate.org.uk/ for more information about the campaign.
It was an opportunity for members and reps to highlight Prospects existing concerns about cuts in public services and to make MPs aware of our views.
The rally was addressed by general secretaries of participating unions, MPs and other supporters.
An Early Day Motion (EDM 1940) was submitted - you can track the progress of EDM 1940 to check the number of signatures.
