THE UNITED KINGDOM HYDROGRAPHIC OFFICE

Welcome all

All visitors to this site are welcome to browse the available UKHO Public pages (to the left, under eBranch: Hydrographic Office) and those of national interest (also to the left).

WHAT'S NEW -
see Member Pages for details. (last update 2806/10)
  • Members are being asked their views on government proposals for the Civil Service. Pay, job cuts, pensions, redundancy compensation, are all in the firing line. The Prospect circular, detailing the issues can be found in the members only, Prospect Document Library at: http://library.prospect.org.uk/id/2010/00949
  • PAY 2010 - GOOD NEWS - the pay deal has passed all hurdles and will be implemented on the 1st August. Detailed figures of progression rises and bonuses, not shown on the management policy document, are available on the members Documents page. See Prospect Highlights.
  • CS Compensation Scheme - The "victory" in judicial review of PCS is not necessarily good news. We are now back at square one but with a government determined to offer a worse outcome than that previously negotiated (14/06/10).
  • Prospect BEC are content with the short term  denial of SPL for sporting events  (due to the the present economic climate). that is as long as and that decision is consitently applied  across the UKHO. Lets hope it doesn't snow in July(14/06/10).
  • A response to the CEOs letter of 3rd March will be posted soon. However, these are early days in any required management process. Therefore the real work of retaining a unified work force and process will not begin until the Corporate Plan is published and management consultation begins.
  • OPD post mappping. Now that the B1 situation has cleared, post mapping letters are being sent to all remaining OPD staff. However, no documents have been received by TUs in reference to consultation (23/12/09).
  • Review of Civil Service Compensation Scheme (CSCS).  The Cabinet Office have sent Prospect their NEW proposals for 'significant and detrimental' changes to the CSCS.  Further details for members in 'View Documents' section. (04/08/09)
  • Older members of staff are asked to view page 27, of the JULY Profile magazine. It reports cancer scares at Ordnance Survey after the use of etching inks on astrofoil bases some 20-30 years ago. Our H&S reps are aware of the issue and will file a full report shortly.

Welcome to the public pages of the Prospect UKHO branch website. The Branch Executive Council hope that, as an employee of the UKHO, you will consider joining your local Prospect branch. With over 55% of staff as members, we have the largest on-site union base. The links (to the left) on this website should give a good indication of what to expect as a Prospect member at the UKHO.

Existing Members

Existing Prospect members at the UKHO should use the Member log-in and Your eBranch buttons to the right to access information (also see eBranch user guide). PROJECT AMBER has its own page and is kept up-to-date with the latest relevant information.

UKHO Branch

At the UKHO, an elected union committee (Branch Executive Council - BEC) of Prospect members work on behalf of colleagues to negotiate all aspects of your terms and conditions of employment. These include pay, pensions, childcare facilities, annual leave, grading and much more. As an agency of the MOD, Prospect must negotiate locally with UKHO management on all aspects of employment.

The BEC is supported by a union full-time officer and the legal, educational and research resources of the union. Every year the committee proceed with personal cases on behalf of members who find themselves in difficulty at work. This might include a performance appeal, disciplinary or pay query, and union support is often of great value to the affected member.

To be effective the union needs to be as representative as possible of staff views. Presently, as said, Prospect have over 55% of staff in membership. But the more members we have, the more robust we become. Your voice matters, so why not join the majority of your colleagues in union membership and strengthen our collective voice on issues which affect you at work.

The views expressed on this site are not necessarily the views of Prospect nationally.
