Career support services
Prospect's career services are designed to help members manage their career in a changing environment, whether they are positively seeking a new job or dealing with enforced change due to reorganisation or redundancy. We can also help if you want to refresh certain skills or learn new ones.
We provide support in the form of face to face intervention, online, via the telephone or by group sessions. These services are delivered by both Prospect and external providers.
CD lending library
Members can access our FREE CD Lending Libraries which offer self-study CD ROMs on languages, IT, personal development, lifestyle and damily learning.
Unionlearn
UnionLearn offers a free, impartial, confidential service which helps people to develop new skills, improve their job prospects or change jobs. This service is for all unionlearn and union staff, union education tutors, union representatives and members. Call on 08000 92 91 90 or visit the UnionLearn website.
OPUS2 careers
OPUS2 specialises in helping people to review their careers and look at the choices that may be open to them in the future. This is a fee paying service, but Prospect members can get a free half-hour telephone session with one of their counsellors; this will help you assess whether the service would be of benefit to you.

If you're looking for support in drafting and or reviewing your CV or want to refresh your interview techniques, Prospect has produced a range of podcasts covering:

The Guardian Careers website includes a range of downloadable CV templates.
Next Step
The government's Next Step service offers one-to-one career support and development advice on-line, by telephone or face to face. Call 0800 100 900 or visit the Next Step website
Open University
The Open University offers trade union members a 10% discount on a number of its courses, along with a number of free resources.
The OU has also developed a 'Beyond Recession' website. While most of the content was developed specifically for Wales, it includes a lot of widely useful information.
Finally, the OU also runs its own careers advisory service website.
Birkbeck University
Birkbeck University offers a 10% discount to trade union members on all its courses. It also has a very practical and useful free site called Get Ahead, Stay Ahead. This can help you refresh your study skills, achieve your goals and develop other key transferable skills such as presentational skills.
